Thanks for stopping by Horse Heroes Alberta!

We don't do the choosing so much, as the circumstances do. At auctions, we will never bid against a home. We only pull the horses that are being bought for meat.
We take into account our costs, our expenses, and we do our best to recoup these.
This keeps our finances replenished so we are not constantly asking for contributions.
We also feel every horse does have value, so should be priced at/close to Fair Market Value.
Doing this allows us to continue to help the horses that need
and all the other expenses that come with saving horses.
At this point, no. We've encountered too many problems we didn't foresee, so for now we feel this isn't an option for us.
We like to keep an eye on the horses that come through us, but we also understand not every situation stays ideal.
We need to be contacted and will try to work with you.
Just keep us in the loop!
We often get asked why our rescue isn’t a registered charity, so we wanted to take a moment to explain.
In Canada, being a registered charity means following strict federal guidelines — including limits on what you’re allowed to publicly speak about. Charitable organizations are not permitted to oppose or criticize government policies, even when those policies directly affect the welfare of animals.
Because we believe it’s important to speak up for horses, especially on issues like horse slaughter, auctions, and animal welfare laws, we chose to remain a non-registered rescue. This allows us to advocate freely, raise awareness, and stand up for the horses who can’t speak for themselves.
We may not issue tax receipts, but every donation goes directly toward feed, vet care, rehabilitation, and safe homes for the horses we save. 💛
Thank you to everyone who supports us — your help makes it possible for us to keep rescuing and keep speaking out.
As we are not a registered charity, HHA does not offer tax receipts. This may change in the near future!
